Do you know the power of your intuition?

How many times have you said… “I knew it” and then beat yourself up for not listening to that inner force giving you a signal? In this post, I’m going to talk about the power of intuition, our instinct, that spontaneous voice that often makes little sense to us or that we don’t want to acknowledge.

Before talking about intuition, I think it’s necessary to mention that one of the brain’s functions is to ensure our safety and survival. Human nature is designed to secure the individual’s well-being. We survive and function through the accumulation of experiences—for example, we avoid a certain path because we know that when it rains, mud might get our car stuck. But we also survive and function through our intuition.

Intuition is that sudden nudge that comes to you in a particular situation, that fleeting thought, that feeling in your stomach, in your throat… that you sense for a millisecond. It wants to tell you something but whether you clearly hear it and listen to it, or you hear it as a distant voice and let it pass by, you remember it later when you didn’t listen and say… “I knew it!”

Through intuition, we connect our inner world with the outer world and the unconscious with the conscious. Developing intuitive intelligence helps us better listen to and understand our inner world and will help us make more accurate decisions.

How to develop our intuition?

  • The first step is to be able to detect it, to feel that premonition that comes spontaneously to our mind. The more we connect with calm and tranquility, with our inner world, living in the present, the intuition becomes clearer and more consistent.

  • If we need calm and to set aside anxiety and stress to develop our intuitive intelligence, practicing mindfulness, meditation, breathing exercises, etc. will help in this development.

  • Do the exercise of differentiating a thought from intuition. Intuition is usually less verbal than a thought; it’s a feeling, it doesn’t require conscious processing.

  • Practice observation, pay attention to your body, your surroundings, and listen calmly. This is the perfect scenario for intuition to emerge.

The idea is not to make decisions solely through intuition, but if it appears and you listen to it, include that feeling in your logical reasoning before taking a step—it’s a way to expand the information before making a move or reacting. Practice is your best ally, are you willing to give it a try?
