What is Coaching?

It seems like coaching is all the rage these days; you hear the word “coach” in the media, on social networks, and your friend might even say, “I have a coach.” But… do you really know what coaching is?
Coaching is a form of personal growth where the coachee (the client) presents the topic they want to work on—whether personal or professional—to the coach (a trained professional with certification and experience). The coach’s goal is, using various techniques, to help the coachee find their own tools so that they can grow, overcome obstacles, and improve their personal security in any area of their life.
As a coach, some common topics I encounter are:
Personal: dealing with anxiety and stress, strengthening self-esteem, enjoying life more, maintaining a personal-professional balance, building personal relationships, emotional management, changing habits, etc.
Professional: leadership, decision-making, career development, developing specific strengths, boosting motivation, adapting to change, etc.
The magic of coaching lies in the “powerful questions” (so-called because they truly are) that the coach asks at specific moments to awaken the client’s awareness and see where the opportunity for growth lies.
In essence, coaching is a process of personal growth where the coach will use techniques and methods to help you achieve your goals in a limited period of time.
